2008 Jr. Iditarod Final Standings
2009 | Archive Index | 2007
February 23 and 24, 2008
February 23rd dawned clear and crisp contrary to weather forecasts calling for mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers. Originally the race was planned to start at Knik Lake, the traditional home and jumping off place for the Iditarod Trail, but due to a warm spell during the previous several days, for safety reasons, the race had to be moved up to the Willow Community Center for both the start and finish and on an out and back trail of approximately 140 miles total length. Temperatures were relatively mild and ranged from -3 to +39, and Sunday, with the exception of scattered fog, was clear and crisp as well. Trail conditions were hard and fast this year and the river generally smooth. The winning team averaged 11.6 miles per hour running time.
