1999 Jr. Iditarod Final Standings
2000 | Archive Index | 1998
February 27 & 28, 1999
The 22nd running of the Jr. Iditarod. The race started at Lake Lucille in Wasilla and ran to the layover point at Yentna Station Roadhouse on the Big Bend of the Yentna River. Rather than the invariably punchy ten mile loop around Yentna Station, it was decided to add a new segment to the race course out to Eagle Song Lodge at Trail Lakes on a much better groomed and established trail. Although this loop, which was run both days, may add to the length of the race, making it between 158 and 163 miles, it added a measure of safety for the dogs and drivers as well as a new Lodge and checkpoint to the trail. Temperatures ranged between +2 to +28 degrees F with trail conditions generally good.
