Due to lack of snow at Lake Lucille, the start of the race had to be moved to the Aurora Race Track in Big Lake. Trail distance was approximately 145 miles in length to the halfway layover point at Yentna Station Roadhouse and return to Aurora, with hard and fast trail conditions the exception being the loop out at Yentna Station which was again soft. Temperatures ranged from +10 to -20 degrees. As conditions had not improved overnight, the finish of the race was also at the Aurora track this year. The 1998 race is the largest entry so far in the history of Jr. Iditarod® with ten boys and ten girls representing both rural as well as highway tied Alaska. We also welcome our first Canadian entry and she is our second international entry, the first being from Czechoslovakia in 1992. Race Marshall, Simon Kineen
