February 24 and 25, 1996

Trail went from Lake Lucille in Wasilla to Yentna Station Roadhouse on the Big Bend of the Yentna River. At Yentna mushers were required to take a layover and return to Lake Lucille Sunday. Trail conditions were good Saturday with temperatures in the upper twenties. Sunday morning a severe storm moved in forcing teams to travel through 12+ inches of fresh snow. Due to these conditions the finish line had to be moved back to the Hollywood Road crossing after the first three teams returned to Lake Lucille. Trail distance was about 150 miles for the first three teams and approximately 143 for the later teams. Race Marshall - Lance Barve
