Anitra Winkler

Cantwell, AK, USA

Anitra, 16, has run the Jr. Iditarod twice, finishing 11th and 5th. She started mushing four years ago after Jayne Hempstead took her for a ride on her sled. A senior at Cantwell School, Anitra participates in track, cross country, Student Council and Battle of the Books. She says in her spare time she enjoys running, horseback riding and hunting. After graduation from high school, she plans to attend college and says she isn’t sure about continuing to run dogs.
