Lacey Hart

Lacey withdrew from the race on Fri Feb 12, 2010
Reason: lack of funds
Lacey HartLacey, 16, will run her second Jr. Iditarod in 2010. She received the Humanitarian Award for the best cared for dog team last year. She says, “When I was eight, our elementary school had the Iditarod program, and each cid had to read page for page against a musher on the Iditarod. After the program, I was hooked on dogs! Six months later, we got two tour teams, 17 dogs. We literally went from two to 19 overnight. Since then I have bought and bred dogs. The result is that most of the dogs on my team are dogs I have raised from pups and trained myself. Next year I plan to run my Iditarod qualifiers (and my last Jr. Iditarod) and the following year, I plan to run the Iditarod.” She is now a homeschooled high school junior and says she enjoys hiking, scuba diving, dog agility and kayaking. She hopes to attend college somewhere in Alaska and study marine biology. She says she will “absolutely” continue mushing dogs.
